It has been said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.  Melba Pharr and Jerry Smith took that first step in 1980 by organizing what is known today as The Knox County Hospital District Pink Ladies Auxiliary.  The group started out with volunteers to help with patient services at the Knox County Hospital. In October of the same year, the auxiliary opened the Thrift Shop  in downtown Knox City.  Stocked with items donated by area residents, the Pink Ladies provided used clothing and household items for resale at low prices.  The business flourished and the Pink Ladies began touching lives by providing funding for needed medical equipment, ambulances, and patient comfort items.

Over the years, the business grew until it required a larger building and the thrift store moved to its current location.  Though an exact figure is not available, donations from this remarkable group exceed $250,000.  These donations literally touch lives.

We are so thankful for our amazing auxiliary.  Their selfless hours of volunteering have benefitted every entity of KCHD.  Our Pink Ladies are a vital asset to our organization.  Knox County Hospital Auxiliary gladly welcomes your donated items to be sold at 110 S. Central Ave. in Knox City.  New Volunteers are also always a welcome addition.
